Shale Insight kicked off in high gear this morning as U.S. Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta touted the virtues of American natural gas and its impacts on the nation’s manufacturing workforce.

“The work boots of American workers in the natural gas industry now sit outside the homes of this region,” Acosta told the crowd gathered at Pittsburgh’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center. “The natural gas industry is the development of natural resources. The American workforce is a valuable natural resource.”

Acosta praised Pittsburgh as a monument to American manufacturing, and he called the natural gas industry a “great example” of improving the American economy.

“As Americans, we’re proud of our national symbols,” Acosta said. “We should be just as proud of our airports, seaports, pipelines and the workers who built them.”
